It’s literally because that’s the national anthem of the Russian Empire during Tchaikovsky's time (which is why he puts it in the 1812 Overture and the Marche Slave because it represents Russia)

The running notes are great - very informative. I wasn’t aware of the Radetzky March connection with Haydn’s 1st movt second subject but it seems obvious now - thanks! One thing. The slow movement doesn’t mention the (in Haydn’s time relativity novel) clarinets as part of the wind band and sometimes refers to oboes where clarinets are meant, eg the flute-clarinet duet at 1:01:55. It’s a pity because this performance brings out the clarinet parts more clearly than most.

Absolutely an incredible performance. This is by far my favorite interpretation of this concerto. And his cadenza in the first movement was brilliant! After watching Jaemin play this as well as several other pieces, he has become my favorite cellist.

BRAVO! BRAVO! Yet, I've lived long enough to hear both Cerminaro & Allegrini play this concerto "live" far better than does Mr. Dohr, who has been trained well in horn playing but not making great music. Fine post! Keep them coming!!
